NOC

Network Operation Centres (NOC) are the master control centres for connectivity to the internet. They consist of first-tier multiple connections, infrastucture and highly trained staff to give web hosting and the routing of the world's internet traffic. All first-tier providers and major telecommunication companies build them to keep a solid connection to high speed internet trunks 24 hours a day.

They are expensive world class facilities and are found in major cities throughout the world. They are designed to provide security, high speed and reliability. NOC's usualy have multiple connections to high speed first-tier T1, T3 and OC-3 bandwidth connections. The name "first-tier" is given because they are raw pipes that contain most of the internet traffic.
