LEO
This is the low earth orbit satellite system that orbits the earth between 400 and 1000 miles above the earths surface. They are used for data communications such as email, paging, SMS and video conferencing. They are not fixed in space and move in and out of range of earth bound transmitting stations very fast. Because of this they relay data between themselves as they move in and out of range of the stations. The stations do not require strong transmitting equipment as the LEOs orbit so low to the surface. These type of satellites enable underdeveloped areas to have satellite services.
