CGI

CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface, this is a process of transfering data between a web server and a CGI program. The programs are designed to accept data and return data to web browsers, web servers and also the CGI program itself. The program can be written in any programing language including C, Perl, Java or Visual Basic.
