A blog (or a web log if you will) is a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse date order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. A key feature and incentive to blogging is the ability for people to comment on a blog post, this helps to build communities and interaction with viewers. The very first bloggers date back to 1994 where Justin Hall and Jerry Pournelle are often regarded as the first bloggers... or diarists as they were then called.
There are many types of blogs that people can run;
- Personal Blog
- Photoblog
- Corporate Blog
- Product Blog - where companies track their own products
- Genre based blogs... politics, law, travel
- Collaborative blog
There are also many different types of platforms that you can use to blog, some of them are hosted solutions and some are applications that you install onto your own site;
There are cases when people can give away to much information on their own personal blogw hich can lead to some situations where peoples identity is stolen or even worse! Another area to be careful with when blogging is to not write anything negative about your job - there have been cases where people have been sacked or heavily disciplined because of this.
